Reverse osmosis (RO) is a pressure-driven membrane separation process that forces feedwater through semi-permeable membranes, rejecting dissolved salts, organics, colloids, and micro-organisms to produce high-purity permeate. How It Works

Feedwater is first pre-treated (typically via multi-media filtration, activated carbon adsorption, and antiscalant dosing) to protect downstream membranes. A high-pressure pump then forces the pre-treated water through spiral-wound polyamide thin-film composite (TFC) membrane elements. Water molecules pass through the membrane while dissolved salts, heavy metals, bacteria, and organic compounds are rejected and discharged as concentrate. The permeate is collected, post-treated (pH adjustment, remineralization, or EDI polishing as required), and delivered to the point of use. An integrated CIP (Clean-in-Place) system automates periodic membrane cleaning to maintain flux and rejection performance over the membrane's service life.
