The plate and frame filter press is one of the most widely used solid-liquid separation technologies in sludge dewatering and process filtration. Zhongsheng Environmental manufactures a comprehensive range — from compact 1 m² manual units for laboratory and pilot-plant duty to fully automatic 500 m² PLC-controlled presses for high-volume municipal and industrial applications. Rugged polypropylene filter plates, precision hydraulic clamping, and intelligent cycle control deliver consistently dry filter cake with minimal operator input.
A stack of polypropylene filter plates — each fitted with a filter cloth — is clamped together by a hydraulic or mechanical thrust mechanism to form a series of sealed chambers. A feed pump delivers conditioned sludge or slurry into the chambers under pressure. Liquid (filtrate) passes through the filter cloth and drainage channels, exiting via corner ports, while solids are retained and build up as a cake inside each chamber. As chambers fill, the feed pressure rises to the set point and the press enters a pressure-hold phase to maximise cake dryness. Once the cycle is complete, the hydraulic ram retracts, plates are separated (manually or by an automatic plate-shifter), and the cake drops by gravity into a hopper, conveyor, or skip below. On fully automatic PLC models the entire sequence — clamping, feeding, pressing, opening, cake discharge, and cloth washing — is executed without operator intervention, with all parameters logged on the HMI.
