Arizona board approves $14.2M for Mexico desalination and reuse studies, Oct 2026
Arizona's Water Infrastructure Finance Authority board approved about $14.2 million in study funds at a 5 October 2026 special meeting, according to reporting published on 7 October 2026: roughly $8.5 million for a second Gulf of California desalination feasibility study and about $5.7 million for a water-reuse study that could include Tijuana, Mexicali and San Luis Rio Colorado. Both are proposed by the Acciona-Fengate Water Augmentation Alliance, and the desalination plant is sized at up to 500,000 acre-feet a year. For treatment-plant operators and procurement leads, the move formalises cross-border reuse and desalination as a procurement track against a Mexican reuse market that already runs 143.8 cubic metres per second through municipal plants.
