Proposed treatment for closed-loop Mediterranean seawater used in live-fish transport, designed around TAN control and reuse of treated water.
Project Background
The client-supplied design basis is a closed recirculating seawater system for a live-fish transport trailer. TAN starts near 0 and may increase by approximately 2 mg/L per day, with a client target of TAN ≤5 mg/L. The water has high salinity, pH near 8.0, chloride near 19,900 mg/L, and no confirmed discharge specification. The proposed process is subject to water temperature, alkalinity, TSS, organic loading, fish species, stocking density, space, weight and power data.
Our Solution
The proposed solution uses a multimedia filter to remove suspended solids and protect the downstream membrane, followed by a particulate filter and UF for additional solids separation and biological-risk control. Chlorine dioxide is proposed for final disinfection, with dosing adjusted after confirming residual requirements and contact conditions. Filter backwash and UF reject water should be collected, characterised and returned to the process headworks or routed for separate treatment depending on solids, salinity and space. TAN control may require additional biological or chemical treatment once temperature, alkalinity, loading and operating conditions are confirmed. Final equipment sizing, membrane selection and disinfection dosage remain subject to the client’s data.
What We Asked First
Please confirm water temperature, alkalinity, actual TSS and organic loading, fish species and stocking density, available trailer dimensions and weight limits, power supply, required treatment objectives, sampling results and the intended reuse or discharge route before final design.
